Julia Schewalie (*1988) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 2009 to 2015. Coming from landscape painting, Julia Schewalie turned to a serial production process, in which she works with many different elements from different materials but through an additive technique produces a uniformity that has its own particular formal language, whereby viewers discover the differences between the individual works. As diverse as her materials are, they operate according to the same mechanism; they interact in persistently new ways with the light that falls on them, and thus their presence in a given space changes. A change in perspective sometimes changes everything. This is a mesmerizing aspect of the works of Julia Schewalie, which have an inherently ephemeral and fleeting quality often juxta- posed with a perplexingly unusual use of materials.The monochrome works generate contemplative situations, and tempt viewers with their haptically compelling surfaces while eluding anyones immediate grasp.
