Beschreibung
In 2019 Germany celebrates a great anniversary, the 100th birthday of one of the world's most famous educational institutions, the Bauhaus. The fame of this school was due to its progressive teaching methods, the appointment of renowned modern artists as teachers and the combination of arts and crafts under the primacy of architecture. Dresden, and indeed Saxony, is rarely mentioned in the same breath with the Bauhaus—very few were the connections between the former kingdom with its capital and the avant-garde institution. The Deutsche Werkstätten (German Workshops) at Dresden-Hellerau, however, need to be mentioned as pioneers of the Bauhaus. The authors of this “Dresden Art Sheets” edition have made it their mission to pursue the existing, sometimes only small and unknown traces of the Bauhaus in Dresden.
