Over the last 50 years Meinhard von Gerkan and his partners have written architectural history. It started with the design for Berlin-Tegel airport and since then over 380 projects have been realized. On the occasion of the exhibition Aus freier Hand (Freehand), a catalog is being published that provides an insight into Meinhard von Gerkans sketches archive, based on 39 projects from the past 50 years. The publication shows how the professor of designranging from the experimental to the feasibleuses simple lines to convey the idea of expressiveness and the basic arrangement of complex buildings, or else of a piece of furniture or an entire town.
