The booklet portrays the Irish priest Hugh O'Flaherty (1898-1963), who lived at the German College at Campo Santo Teutonico in the Vatican from 1938 and worked next door in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. During the months of German occupation in Rome from September 1943 to June 1944, he helped over 6,000 people, including many Jews, escape from the Nazi henchmen. His organizational headquarters was his room in the German college. The authors show in detail what living conditions were like at the Campo Santo Teutonico during this dangerous time and how O'Flaherty was able to carry out his relief work throughout Rome.
