A series of articles, each with an extensive bibliography, provides historical and critical reflections on developments of computer-assisted music analysis up to the 1970s. The source materials consist of hundreds of published and unpublished writings from around the world. An alphabetical and a chronological bibliography are also provided.

Nico Schüler is Professor of Music Theory and Musicology at Texas State University. His research areas include research methodology, computer applications, creativity, music historiography, pedagogy of music theory and history, and interdisciplinary aspects of 19th and 20th century music.
