Beschreibung
This volume contains the first reproduction of what is presumed to be the only surviving copy of Gottfried Taubert’s Kurtzer Entwurff der Nutzbarkeit des Künstlichen Tantz-EXERCITII (1727). It had been considered lost, until Tatiana Shabalina discovered it in the National Library of Russia in 2017. The print contains hitherto unknown details of Taubert’s life and work in his Zerbst period, and it grants a deeper understanding of the role of “prosaic dance” in the context of conduct and etiquette—towards the ideal perfection of the human as “the artistic masterwork of God’s Creation.” A detailed comparison can now be made between the original print of Taubert’s Kurtzer Entwurff (1727), its Danish translation (1742), and Eines sehr berühmten französischen Tanzmeisters drey Regeln (1748), all of which are reproduced in this volume.
