What help can social work with a socio-spatial orientation offer people with so called mental disabilities, especially with regard to their autonomy in old age? Their legal status, renewed and affirmed in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, poses challenges for social work, which the author addresses in this volume.On the basis of interviews with affected persons, he develops ideas on how disability assistance can become enabling assistance.
