Beschreibung
Olbia Pontica is one of the prominent Ancient Greek sites in the south of Ukraine. Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman clay figurines were found there in the 1930s and kept in the National Museum of History of Ukraine. These Terracottas illustrate the course of history in the Black Sea region, changes in art, religion and other aspects of life.
This book analyses the figurines scientifically, through iconographic, technological and chronological identification, consideration of analogies from other centres, and investigations of communication routes in ancient times. Abundant photos and, in the case of partially preserved terracottas, reconstructions help to make this heritage, endangered since 2022, vivid and accessible.
