Investigates the recurrence and aesthetic significance of images of food, appetite and consumption in works by F.T. Marinetti, Aldo Palazzeschi, Massimo Bontempelli, Paola Masino and Luigi Pirandello, published 1905-1939, revisiting these texts under the ‘modernist’ label, which has traditionally been shunned by the Italian critical establishment.

Enrico Cesaretti is Associate Professor of Italian at the University of Virginia. He is the author of
(2001) and has published articles on nineteenth-and twentieth-century Italian literature. His other research interests include travel theory and environmental humanities.
