Gegenstand der Arbeit sind Modalpartikelkombinationen aus ja und doch, halt und eben sowie doch und auch. Basierend auf empirischen Untersuchungen (Akzeptabilitätsstudien, Korpusrecherchen) und einer formalen Modellierung der Bedeutung der Einzelpartikeln sowie ihrer Sequenzen im Rahmen des Diskursmodells nach Farkas & Bruce (2010) schlägt die Arbeit eine ikonische Erklärung der beobachteten Abfolgepräferenzen vor. Die Arbeit argumentiert, dass es sich hierbei um die unmarkierte Abfolge handelt, dass aber ebenfalls von einer markierten Sequenzierung auszugehen ist, die weniger akzeptabel bewertet wird, seltener und auf bestimmte Kontexte beschränkt ist. Diese Kontexte werden identifiziert und in die Ableitung der Präferenz integriert. The subject of this piece of work is the combination of the modal particles ja and doch, halt and eben as well as doch and auch. Based on empirical investigation (acceptability studies, corpus searches) and a formal modelling of the meaning of the single particles as well as their sequences within the discourse model by Farkas & Bruce (2010), this work proposes an iconic explanation of the observed sequencing preferences. It is argued that the preferred sequences show the unmarked orders. However, one should act on the assumption that marked sequences exist as well. These are less acceptable, occur more infrequently and are restricted to certain contexts. These contexts are identified and integrated into the explanation of the preferences.

Sonja Müller studierte Englisch und Deutsch für das Lehramt der Sekundarstufe II und I an der Universität zu Köln. Von 2007-2010 war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl von Prof. Lenerz, wo sie 2010 ihre Promotion mit der Dissertationschrift (Un)informativität und Grammatik. Extraktion aus Nebensätzen im Deutschen abschloss. Von 2010 bis Ende 2015 war sie akademische Rätin a.Z. am Lehrstuhl von Prof. Vogel an der Universität Bielefeld. Dort schloss sie im Februar 2017 das Habilitationsverfahren mit ihrer Habilitationsschrift Distribution und Interpretation von Modalpartikel-Kombinationen ab. Von Dezember 2015 bis Mai 2018 war sie Juniorprofessorin für germanistische Linguistik an der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal. Seit Mai 2018 ist sie akademische Rätin in der gleichen Abteilung. Ihr Forschungsschwerpunkt ist die Modellierung und empirische Erforschung der Grammatik des Deutschen in den Bereichen Syntax, Semantik, Pragmatik und Informationsstruktur. Sonja Müller studied English and German at the University of Cologne. She worked as a wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin at the chair of Prof. Lenerz from 2007 to 2010 where she finished her Promotion with her dissertation (Un)informativität und Grammatik. Extraktion aus Nebensätzen im Deutschen in 2010. From 2010 to the end of 2015 she was Akademische Rätin a.Z. at the chair of Prof. Vogel at the University of Bielefeld. She finished her Habilitation there in February 2017 with the thesis Distribution und Interpretation von Modalpartikel-Kombinationen. From December 2015 to May 2018, she was Juniorprofessorin for Germanic linguistics at the University of Wuppertal. Since May 2018, she has been akademische Rätin in the same department. Her research interests centre around the modelling and empirical investigation of the grammar of German in the areas syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and information structure.
