The Kunsthalle Düsseldorf presents the first comic by an art institution inGermany, a history of images and art that is as instructive as it isentertaining. From Jan Wellem and Wilhelm Busch to Matisse and FrancisBacon to Yin Xiuzhen and Megan Rooney. Drawn by Aachen-based artistWilli Blöss, who has been working on artists' comics for over 20 years. Inour childhood homes, comics were still considered trash, then pop artistslike Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein discovered comics as an art formand made them sought-after collector's items. So it's no surprise that in2014 someone was willing to pay around 2.4 million euros for an "ActionComics No. 1" from 1938. The 9th art has finally become sociallyacceptable.
