A view into the book you can find under "http://verlag.sandstein.de/reader/98-382_KZSachsenburg" Sachsenburg Concentration Camp (1933–1937) The Sachsenburg concentration camp near Chemnitz was the major and the longest continuously operated concentration camp in Saxony. It was built by the Nazis in early 1933 to eliminate their main political opponents, especially Communists, Social Democrats, and trade unionists. Also imprisoned here—increasingly before the closure of the camp in 1937—were Jehovah’s witnesses, Jews, priests of both denominations, and protective custody inmates. With 25 contributions by 19 authors, this volume presents the first comprehensive history of the Sachsenburg concentration camp. In addition to looking at the camp’s role within the Nazi terror regime in Saxony and a survey of its development, the following aspects are given special attention: the analysis of offender groups and individual SA and SS perpetrators, the inmate population and individual inmate groups, as well as the perception of the camp abroad. The volume is completed by studies of the legal reappraisal and the history of the Sachsenburg Concentration Camp Memorial in the GDR, as well as reflections on dealing with the historical heritage up to the present day.
