Beschreibung
It is the true symbol of Dresden, the most magnificent church of Protestant Christendom – the Dresden Frauenkirche. Erected between 1726 and 1743 on ancient holy ground, the church building experienced both brilliant and tragic times. The Allied bombing of Dresden in February, 1945, sounded the death knell for this jewel of world culture. For 50 long years it lay in ruins, a reminder of the war. Since 1994, it has once again began to take its rightful place on the skyline of Dresden. This unique reconstruction out of a mountain of rubble of a master work, which was re-consecrated in 2005, is finely portrayed in word and picture by Jürgen Helfricht and Ulrich Häßler.
