Beschreibung
The steady progress in medicine calls for innovative developments, improved processes and advanced materials in the field of medical technology. Over the course of time, a wide variety of equipment, instruments, implants, disposable devices, and measuring systems have been developed and established. The quality of patients’ medical care is dependent on the quality of the advanced materials/alloys and equipment used.
Over the last decade, advanced materials science has contributed significantly to advances in medicine and medical technology. Advanced materials that are in direct contact with body tissues and/or fluids must be biocompatible on the one hand and biostable on the other. Depending on the application, advanced materials are expected to have different properties, e.g. bioactivity, i.e. the surrounding body tissue is stimulated by the implant to grow.
