Beschreibung
Derneburg Castles extensive history has been shaped by many and varied lordships. These were the Augustinians, Cistercians and Lutherans during the monastery era. After the Congress of Vienna in 1814, the era of the aristocracy began with Ernst Friedrich Herbert Count of Münster. The latter, together with his master-builder Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves, had an English landscape garden laid out around the castle with interesting buildings alluding to major periods in art history. Today these can be viewed on the cultural-historical route known as the 'Laves Culture Trail'. With the famous artist Georg Baselitz, the castle became a large studio that has now been transformed by the Hall Art Foundation into a public art museum of contemporary art by international artists.
