Agnès Hubert knows the Europaen Union and its women's and gender equality policies from her own many years as an expert. Her book gives a detailed overview of the history of gender equality in the EU, feminist policies, key actors, institutions, the cooperation of women's networks and organisations, the efforts, obstacles and occasional setbacks on the way to a more equal EU. It highlights the main milestones along the way, from equal pay to protection against domestic violence, from the first legislative measures to the impact of the covid-19 pandemic.

Agnès Hubert is an experienced policy maker and a recognised author on EU gender equality policy and social innovation in the EU. She is currently associate researcher with PRESAGE (Programme de Recherches et d'Enseignements des Savoirs sur le Genre) at Science Po/OFCE Paris, visiting professor at the College of Europe in Bruges, founding member and president of the first European feminist think tank Genderfiveplus.com and member of the Haut Conseil de l'Egalité, the advisory body to the French government on equality between women and men.
