Gardens for Children
Alex Oberholzer / Lore Lässer
If children are to grow up to become mentally and physically agile, they must be highly mobile from a young age through to adolescence, and be free to encounter nature. This must include play with earth, rocks, sand, water, wood and other materials. This book features fundamental design concepts and guidelines for designing with proven, near-natural design elements: hills, earth walls, springy branches, gravel and sand features, hedges, shrub enclosures and tracks, ponds and features for water play. The individual designs are described and illustrated, and users describe their experience with them. There are also tips on how such designs can be implemented, in addition to many ideas on observing and experiencing nature, illustrated with many garden photographs. Whether for the kindergarten, schoolyard or private garden – imaginative play areas can be created using simple means.
