The book intends to understand the concept of up?saka / up?sik? or
in in D?gha- and Majjhima-nik?ya discourse of the P?li canon. Considered as oral literature, the meaning of the structure and stock phrases constructing the narrative is examined and interpreted from a theory of religious experience.

Sompornnuch Tansrisook studied Thai, P?li and Sanskrit at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok (Thailand) as well as Comparative Religion in Bonn (Germany). Currently she is a lecturer in the Section of P?li and Sanskrit at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.
